Once you have set your base at Tehyca. You will discover a side of Kodaikanal most people miss out on. Here is all that you can do around!The road to all the below places to and from Tehyca is very scenic.Be sure to get some great photos and videos!
Tehyca-In Itself is a nice tourist attaction with a facinating view to Palani with a marvelous waterfall beside.Guests can enjoy barebeques,campfire,have great food , short hikes all while watching the amazing view!
Forest between Kodaikanal town to Poombarai-Have the most amazing drive through one of the most beautiful forest area in Kodaikanal with easy access from Kodaikanal town or from Tehyca.The forest boasts a very well maintained road and you will also go through a pine forest,streams and a small waterfall.From the town center,you would go through this forest area and after crossing Poombarai village , you will reach Tehyca (22 KM from town center)
Berijam lake,Silent valley ,Moir Point, Pillar rocks,Guna caves,Pine forest,Suicide Point,Devils Kitchen-All these attractions come in one area and would need a day to explore.Berijam Lake is a pristine lake Protected by the forest department and probably the biggest and most beautiful lake in Kodaikanal.You may require permission from the forest department to enter and is easy to get for limited vehicles everyday in the morning.Later in the day , the lake can be accessed via forest department bus for a low fee!You could spent the rest of the day seeing the other sights around.To get here , take a diversion from the the forest road from town to Poombarai.
Poombarai Village-As you cross the forest from town area towards Poombarai, you start reaching view points and then as you go you will have a glimplse of Poombarai village from above!Poombarai is a beautiful village with a Kuzhanthai Velappar temple as its center piece.There is a lot of history and legent to this temple!Garlic is very famous from Poombarai and is said to have medicinal qualities!
Kookal – Village with a beautiful lake and a waterfall, view point & Kukkal Caves (Requires Hike) near the village center. Kookal is10 kms from Tehyca through the short cut scenic road via gundupetty village.If your ready for a nice 1 hour trek down ,you can go down to Tutur falls which is very nice.you will need 3 hours to visit this falls and come back.Remember!what goes down has to come up,fitness is key!
Mannavanur -With rolling hills spread Across a large area,this village’s biggest attaction is the govt. sheep farm and its lake.Children will love playing around the sheep and rabbits and also ride on a horse!
If you have time to explore more,there are many other Villages that could be explored such as Annavattan , Gundupetty, Puthuputhur, Pazhamputhur, Kilanavayil, Kombur, Kavunji, Poondi, Polur, Kilavarai etc.All of them have beautiful attractions to offer such as views , lakes , farms ,streams, waterfalls extra.There are hikes and treks around this area which you can contact tour operators in Kodaikanal to explore.
